Enzootic Ltd., a biotechnological partnership with Ben Gurion University has won the best AgTech company competition of the 4th AgriVest meeting held last week at the Weizmann Institute. This year’s conference attracted some of the key figures of the international agriculture industry, bringing together upcoming AgTech companies with investors, leading agriculture companies and government representatives from across the world.
“We are proud to have received such recognition, as the commercialization of our first product was a key milestone for the company and its investors.” said Dr. Assaf Shechter, the company’s CEO. “We are now focusing our efforts on expanding our commercial capabilities in South East Asia with the goal of becoming a leading biotechnological powerhouse for the crustacean aquaculture industry”.
Enzootic’s first biotechnological product was commercially launched earlier this year, enabling for the first time the production of all-female culture of crustaceans. In most farmed crustacean species, females outperform males and are better suited for intensification of the culturing conditions. This biotechnological breakthrough was achieved without the use hormones, chemicals or genetic modification and it is based on Enzootic’s ability to generate breeding females for hatcheries worldwide that can only produce female offspring
